Administration

Pastor received his Masters of Divinity from Concordia Seminary St. Louis in 2004. He has served churches in California, Arizona, and Illinois. In 2014 Pastor Deombeleg accepted the position of Vacancy Pastor at Immanuel in 2015 and accepted the call from Immanuel to be our Pastor. Pastor Deombeleg is originally from California, is married and has two children, Steven 15, and Olivia 13.

 

As a Californian he loves to cheer on his favorite sports teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Raiders, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also enjoys cooking, a variety of music, nature, automobiles, and spending time with family. He loves to be around people, share life, and laugh a lot.

Valerie Winston was born and raised in the city of Detroit. By the time she was six years old she knew she wanted to be a teacher. During her fourth grade year she transferred from Detroit Public Schools to Holy Cross Lutheran School. She has been a part of Lutheran education since.

 

After graduating from Lutheran High West in Detroit, she attended Concordia University in River Forest, IL. She graduated in 1984, with a BA in Elementary Education. She has taught a variety of grades, including high school. She has taught in Long Beach, CA, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, and Royal Oak, MI. She was recently a principal in a Chicago Lutheran School.   

 

She has been a coach, choir director, and teacher mentor. She enjoys writing and recently had her first book published. She also enjoys reading, cooking, scenic photography, watching movies, and visiting Northern Michigan whenever possible.

Mrs. Honey is a graduate from Chicago State University where she received a B.A. in Psychology. She worked for HSBC for 18 years before her entire department was dissolved.  She is the mother of three wonderful children. Two of which are in college and the other is enrolled at Immanuel in 5th grade. She enjoys spending time with her family & friends and supporting her children in their extra-curricular activities.

Joanna came to Immanuel as a church member, school mom and PTL member in 2008. She began working for Immanuel in 2010 in Extended Care. In 2012, she added to her duties and accepted the role of Admissions Director and now dedicates her time and focus to that position. Her son Jacob graduated from Immanuel in 2016 and is a Senior at Walther Christian Academy.

Favorite Bible Verse: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Matthew 6: 19-21

Faculty

Carnita Nash - PreK

Carnita Nash started in the field of education in 2006. She has worked as a classroom teacher and as a counselor in educational settings. She holds both her Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree. She has a passion for education, is very active in her community & church, enjoys traveling and loves spending time with her family. She is married and has two wonderful sons that attend Immanuel.

Mrs. Hardy has been at Immanuel since 2003. This is her 10th year teaching Kindergarten at Immanuel. She has also taught First/Second Grades at Immanuel. 

 

Mrs. Hardy & her husband Steve have lived in Elmhurst for 40 years. They have one cat named Sully, and lots of goldfish. Their son Drew and his wife Jen have two daughters, Kaylee and Maya and a son Dominic.  The Hardy's daughter Rachael, and husband, Andy, live in South Carolina with their son, Bryson who is three and Tucker will arrive the beginning of October.

Mrs. Svec is a graduate of Concordia University Chicago and has taught in the classroom for 16 years as well as home schooled for eight years. She is a called church worker who loves teaching and has a heart for the mission of Immanuel Lutheran Church to share the love of our Lord Jesus with the children at Immanuel. She is blessed, once again, to be teaching first and second grade and is looking forward to all that God has in store for her class to explore, learn, and investigate this year! Mrs Svec is married and has three sons and three grandchildren.

Favorite Bible Verse:  Let me experience your faithful love in the morning, for I trust in You. Revealed to me the way I should go because I long for You.  Psalm 143:8 

A called church worker, Mr. Hempel has been teacher/music director at Immanuel since 1988.  Before he came to Immanuel, he served at Good Shepherd, Elgin, IL for twelve years. He graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL with a B.A. in elementary education. Mr. Hempel leads the children in choir, a church Christmas Music Program as well as a Spring Musical each year.

Favorite Bible Verse:  Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Corie Woodruff

Mrs. Woodruff is a graduate of Concordia University Chicago and has taught in the classroom for sixteen years. Mrs. Woodruff and her husband have three children, two of which attend Immanuel.  She enjoys reading, cooking, travelling, and fostering kittens with a local shelter.   

Favorite Bible Verse:   Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. - John 21:25
 

Mike Ennis - P.E. Teacher, Coach

Mike Ennis and his wife Lexa have been co-pastors at Broadview Wesleyan Church since 2010. Mr. Ennis is beginning his fifth year at ICA as our P.E. teacher. He has two children, a son and a daughter. 

Favorite Bible Verse:  Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. - Isaiah 1:17

Linda Erjavec - Piano

Mrs. Erjavec is a certified (commissioned) teacher with LCMS. She started teaching in Cicero, where she met her husband. After starting a family, she returned to teaching at Bethlehem, River Grove, where she continues to be the Director of Parish Music/choir director.

 

Over the past seven years, she has started piano programs at three different schools. Piano lessons will continue at ICA this year ending the year with a Spring Recital.
